Nymph and fast waters
“Wire” nymph fishing requires very specific equipment. It is often common to that used for fishing in fast water with dry fly (mountain torrents but also rapid areas of lowland rivers), very sporty conditions to face super lively fish and taking advantage of all the resources of this environment for us escape.
Our department offers long rods to control the drift of your nymph or dry flies but well balanced and light so as not to tire your outstretched arm during long fishing trips, fine silks and short leaders for fishing under the rod and specific reels.
You have everything you need to tackle these sporty and exciting fishing trips with confidence in dream environments!
Nymph fishing with line or other
Nymph fishing is practiced with a range of techniques: line nymphing , sight nymphing , Spanish fishing , roulette , etc.
Wire nymphing is one of the most popular techniques today and consists of drifting 1 or 2 nymphs at different heights in the currents. Rod, reel and lines are essentially the same as for dry fly fishing in fast water, possibly even longer if you only fish with a nymph. The leader includes a color indicator allowing you to visualize the drift then a tip of length adapted to the depth (of the order of 1, (to 2 times the depth). The indicator is kept out of the water in controlling drift. Various nymphs can be used: pheasant tail , helmeted nymph , perdigone for the best known.
Dry fly fishing in fast water
The technique of fishing in fast water is essentially linked to the perfect presentation of flies on the positions held by the fish. These techniques are. very well described in the excellent book by JP Comby "Dry flies in fast waters".
Targeting the position occupied by the fish is essential and requires reading the river and some knowledge of the trout lifestyle. Then the fly must be presented perfectly naturally on this post, without dragging. A long rod (10' or more) is necessary to properly control the drift of the fly knowing that a minimum of line is released. The leader can often be short and makes it easier to fish under the rod with only 30cm of line out. A fine #2 to #4 or better natural silk helps prevent the silk from sinking back into the rod. The rod/reel assembly must be well balanced and remain light because it is often held horizontally for several hours... A rod with moderate action (and not a tip) allows you to better feel and cushion the bites.
This fishing is best done with a dry fly knowing that we fish the posts and not the gobbles. Fairly large flies (12 to 14) mounted in parachutes are well adapted to be very visible in the broths and to allow drift to be controlled to within a few centimeters, which is essential.
Reels
Semi-automatic reels are very popular for this type of fishing, allowing, thanks to a rapid return of the line, to quickly fish the numerous points of the torrents or to comb the river by nymphing with a line.
Bristles
The use of fine silks that do not fall back into the raised rod when little silk is out is a plus for the practice of this fishing. Line nymphing can be practiced either with a 0.6mm parallel competition line (mandatory line on certain fly fishing courses) or with only line.
Drying in fast water is very pleasant with fine natural or braided SnakeSkin Like silks which also offer great discretion when fishing calm areas and limit dragging when the silk is placed on the water.
Accessories
Indicators allowing you to visualize the drift of the line or a bite are necessary in nymph fishing with a line and many models are available to you.
Don't forget polarized glasses for sight fishing in often crystal clear waters.
