How to tie Joan's clinch knot?

How to tie Joan's clinch knot?

The ' Joan clinch ' knot is an interesting knot for tying the fly to the leader. It is quite simple and very effective. It is portrayed by Joan Wulff , a great fly casting champion.

Realization of the knot

1- Thread the nylon from the tip of the leader through the eyelet of the fly then tie a simple knot near the end.

2- Make 3 to 5 turns with the end of the thread around the leader then pass the simple knot in the loop near the eyelet.

3-Wet the windings a little and hold the overhand knot right up against the eyelet of the fly. Pull on the leader to tighten the turns around the leader, against the eyelet and the knot. Wetting the windings avoids overheating the wire during tightening, which reduces the resistance of the wire and therefore of the knot. It is preferable to limit the number of windings on small diameter wires, especially if you notice breakage.

4-Cut the excess nylon, being careful not to cut the single knot.
