Pheasant tail helmeted 'flashback': a basic ball nymph

The pheasant tail is certainly the most common nymph in fly fishermen's fly boxes.

Essential, this imitation of mayfly larva (notably baetis) is the basis of the nymphs that every fly fisherman must have.

Our "flashback" version is a small fluorescent green tag on the chest which can often make a small difference in visibility.

The helmeted pheasant tail can be used throughout the season and its preferred rivers are rivers with fairly fast currents (weighted fly).

If you are fishing in a reservoir, the pheasant tail with brass bead is weighted enough to make a tippet fly on a train of 3 flies but can also be used alone (knitted fairly slowly).
